Current mood: geeky

In those days, we really believed this to be the world's one and only truth.
It's FMA day! October third. ...of course, this will be all the better in two years, but Shhhh. >D

I kind of want to do something for it, but can think of nothing. Ah well, maybe I'll drag my red jacket out and play the second FMA video game in the basement. ...perhaps I'll actually get past "Wow brother! It only took you 32 tries!!" (Yes, that is a quote. XD)

In the meantime, I resolve to listen to FMA image songs for the duration of my writing this post. I have an urge to listen to Roy's or Al's in particular, but I'll have to get through Ed's first. But I like.... all but one of Ed's, so that's ok. >.> I like all but one for most characters, actually. ^^;

Anyway, on with the post. I've actually been meaning for the past few days to put up one, more or less outlining the past week. Because so much has happened. XD Some of it awesome, some of it crapy, some of it very feelingsy, some of it geeky, some of it... meh. XD I'll cut the bulk of it to save the f-lists out there, if anyone actually... feels like reading, then by all means, do. If not, then don't. =D

So, it's been quite a week. One of those hell-weeks at school with lots of things due. And I still have a few things to do for next week. But it hasn't been all bad either, just... exhausting, I guess.

I guess I should start with last weekend. Friday and Saturday were spent overstressing things, and not getting half as much work done as I should have. Thankfully, though, I finally managed Saturday night to have a skype session with all of my group members for a presentation that was happening Wednesday, so we were able to iron out all our little problems then, and get everything we needed organized and handed in.
I still wish those days had been more productive, but whatcha gonna do, I guess.

Sunday, Sunday was Word on the Street. And that was quite fun.

I kind of worry that I shouldn't have tried to talk [info]two_powers into going with me... she said she had fun, but at least that part of the day seemed a ton more me running around as happy booknerd than her being overly happy. Maybe I'm just paranoid though. ^^;
>.> I'm always paranoid about dragging other people into things that they aren't against, but certainly aren't as gung-ho about as me and might prefer not to all said. Because I know I've done it before.
Please, if I'm doing that, tell me. It might make me a little sad, but it won't hurt my feelings. And I'd much rather know that I should lay off than find out later and feel infinitely guilty. =P

Anyway, yeah. I spent a few good hours bookgeeking. And non-book geeking. And being very amused over the MENSA table having some fake iq-type questions up. Such as these. (Hint: The picture titles are the activities.)

Victoria College was having their annual booksale, so I ended up picking up two books there. The first is a Phantom of the Opera tablebook. *drooool*
The second is a book called From the Japanese. I'll be honest, what sold me was opening it up randomly, to read "I met the most beautiful women in a transvestite burlesque show. And I met the most seductive men in a musical comedy in which all the characters are played by women." (this is the beginning of chapter 7, which is entitled "The Perfect Lover") I fangirled over OMG TAKARAZUKA AND KABUKI!! and, um... yeah. It was $3. I'm... happy. XD
There were Norwegian and Polish phrasebooks which made me think of [info]little_finch... actually, a lot of things seemed to remind me of her over the course of the day. :S

I only picked up one more book, and that was the light novel "The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi". I was tempted by manga, but somehow decided to go that route instead.

Oh! I also got free buttons from the Playwrites Guild of Canada. I could choose my own, so they were all pink, and they say "Play Mate", "Drama King", and "Play with me". I love them. >D
...though I kind of wish I had gotten "Drama King" in yellow, so it would have been more Tamaki-ish. But too late for that now. =D
I was tempted to buy Banana Boys from them, but alas, when I went back, it looked like they were all sold out. (That being said, I have the book version on hold at the library, and hope to pick it up at some point over the course of today. >D)

Some other random highlights of WOTS? Well... there was the booth for this book. Actually for the publisher, I think, but this is the only book they have out so far. I didn't buy it, but it was kinda tempting. I mean.... the book sounds like something that I, or some people I know, could write if on an acid trip. XD
Plus, the author made all those models of her characters, and apparently went around everywhere trying to find different models of mini cats... she said she felt self-concious and I... was relating it to my cosplay shopping and... it kinda works. XD Also, this was the only table in which comment was made on my Sweden necklace, I explained that no, I'm not Swedish at all. And that someone wearing a Finland one would be joining me later. And I was asked if there would be a Denmark and Norway floating around as well.
I seriously want to know if the people running that booth were otaku or not. They kinda had the geekery, and the book's author worked as a translator in Japan. So it's entirely possible. But who knows?

Also: There was a bunny in a carriage. SO CUUUTE. BUNNY. CARRIAGE. CAMOUFLAGE. ADORABLENESS!!!
Also also: Plushtaches.

(Yes, all I was thinking about with that last thing was something to do with potatoes looking stupid... XD)

So, yeah. That was Word on the Street. No gift shopping done, that made me sad. But I didn't see what I wanted for that, so ah well.

At about... 4:30-ish? [info]human_nosferatu joined us. She surprised me by coming in her closet version of new strip!Sweden, or, as it's apparently been nicknamed, "pretentious yuppie-wear". It was adorable, but it made me feel a little bad for not wearing... um... anything Finlandy. Besides the necklace, naturally.

After a short food and C-chan running around to buy the last few things and show off plustache-run, we headed towards Spadina, so we could visit flag shops and other stuff.

So, we went to the flag shop where I got my necklaces. Unfortunately, they were closed. OTL And so a run on a Saturday within the near future was discussed, and will hopefully come to fruition sooner than later. (I needs me some more necklaces! And Finnish food from Milbree-Viking! And other things that are close Sundays and C-chan doesn't have much time other days due to school OTL) Thankfully, not everywhere was closed, though. =D We went to Kensington Market next, and most things there were to be open until 6 or 6:30 or so at least, and so there was a little time for exploration. We all picked up some tea (Russian for Phin, lose-leaf nummy things for Mori and I), and Phin lamented over not having any devices for loose leaf. (Personally, I have both an infuser and a strainer. I only really use the strainer though....) (If you're reading this, Phin, would you prefer an infuser or strainer? :S) AND WE ALSO FOUND GROUND CARDAMOM! So now Sweden and Finland can both... bake bread. And buns. Yes.

We also went to the flag shop that's in there, and I fangirled over some buttons that remind me a lot of Sweden. And think they might look awesome on his coat. *hinthint* *hinthint* Yay flag and sewing stores. A Hetalia cosplayer's dream come true. XD It's also the other store we know to sell the necklaces, but it... didn't have the countries that we wanted, which was expected.

Although things were starting to close there, Chinatown was still rather alive. Apparently they don't keep conventional "close early on Sunday" hours. So yay for that. ^^ We went to a Chinese bakery on Spadina (nummy buns~!) and anime Xtreme (Loki cards are tempting....), and then wandered down towards bubble tea. ...I think everyone's orders were quite predictable. I got the honey-lemon tea that was on special, [info]two_powers got plain bubble tea, and [info]human_nosferatu got blueberry milk tea. XD Yep, typical.

If I'm remembering correctly, by then Sweden had (inadvertantly?) badtouched Finland, Finland and Sweden had walked down the street holding hands (I feel short, my arm has to be bent in order to hold on XD) and Sweden had agreed to build a sauna, though with a warning that it might result in Finland having to wear a dress... x_x

I'm trying to remember, but I think we went to sushi right after that. Which meant a nice, long walk up Spadina. The weather was nice though, so it was good. There was a bit of a wait for a spot, which was of course spent being geeky. Because when you have two or more geeks together, what else is bound to happen? (and 3 > 2, last I checked.) I always order a bentou at that place, because it comes with enough for two meals and... has a lot of tasty things for a decent price. Between the leftovers of that and the buns, I had food to sustain myself for a few days. XD

After sushi, we went to BMV and looked at books. And an idea was come up with regarding Santa!Finland and DTAC. *evil grin*

And then, it was time to go home. So Mori and I took the long route in order to accompany Phin to King Station, and then headed eastwards towards our respective houses for some well-earned sleep.

And then Monday hit.

On Monday, I had a small group presentation to do in French in the evening. So we spent lunch hour discussing what we wanted to do.... we involved some examples of bad English from Engrish.com. Gotta love it when things like this can be used for academic purposes.... (and I must remind you all that there is to be no smorking in this general area....) I think it went over pretty well, saying how little we worked on it. But it was just pass/fail anyway, and we made the class laugh, so it was all good.

In the morning, I completed being part of a focus group for a project one of the profs is working on, along with the rest of my class. All of the work was done in-class, but because we did it, we got a $5 gift card for somewhere that sells coffee in town. I went for Isabellas. So that was fun.

And I got some rather inappropriate but pretty things from [info]shutupred that night, that Tina-muse won't shut up about. XD

Tuesday at lunch and after school was spent on my group presentation for Wednesday. Said group presentation was about finances, and I had created an activity where everyone would have to balance their own books. We checked my numbers and double checked that the activity would work as planned over lunch, and then actually ran through a dry run of our presentation after school. We exchanged a few notes, but overall it went pretty smoothly.

Also, on Tuesday I finally took an official MBTI test.
It turns out? I'm tied for INFP and INFJ. Which are the two I see myself going between on tests lately. The tiebreaker said to write P over J (no extra questions, just a rule of thumb type thing.) So... that was kind of fascinating to me. To see that.... I apparently TIE. And it makes sense, looking at the two types.

The weird thing is? There are three lefties in the class. We were all INFP. Were were the only INFPs.
Think that's interesting? IT GETS WEIRDER.

Between a few different classes, we've been doing numerous personality tests. Like MBTI, multiple intelligences, how strong our preferences are for each hand and for each side of our brains, etc.

I'm, I think, the second youngest person in the class.
The oldest guy (not confirmed, but if he's not, I'll be quite surprised, he seems the eldest by a fair bit) is...
Also left-handed (both with apparently strong preferences for left-handedness, the other girl has mild-preference), same bottom and top preferences on multiple intelligence test.... and ALSO tied between INFP and INFJ.

....he also happens to drive within two minutes of my house on his way to and from school, I sometimes get rides home from him, and he'll pick me up if he notices me waiting for the bus, since that IS right on his way.

I'm not sure whether to be amused or scared, in all honesty. XD

Wednesday... was the presentation. The three of us involved went in early and did a dry run, and then actually presented. And... apparently it went quite well. I heard a fair amount of positive feedback. And the budget activity seemed to go over well, if frustrating. XD
I also ran a round-table talk on the power of comic books in the classroom in my ESL class. I knew it would be a busy week, but I really wanted to do that one. I think the talk went well, but now I'm paranoid that I went too far off the topic of ESL. ^^;

Lunch that day... I had a lunch with me, but decided to go to Isabellas instead because it was cold and I wanted caffeine and hadn't even had tea that morning. So I got chicken soup, and tea, and a cookie. And it was good. <3

Wednesday night, I ended up talking to Korea/Cuba from AN/Fanex... I worry about her, there's a lot going on in her life that isn't too good right now. And I hope she gets through everything ok. I realize I'm only hearing one side of the story, and that always bothers me at least a bit, but it sounds like she really needs to get out of where she is, but she's not sure if she really can until she's out of highschool. Actually, I'd been talking to her a bit about that before too, but a lot came out Wednesday.

Wednesday night also was spent working on the photo story that was due Thursday. I had a script/storyboard ready, and had done most of my photo-searching, but I still needed to, um, scan photos, record myself talking, synch everything, etc. So I scanned my photos, and then found out the resolution sucked so I needed to rescan them, and then I put them in and sequenced them and synched them, and recorded about half of my audio.

Yeah.

The bad thing about audio for me is... it literally takes me around an hour for every one minute of stuff you hear. This goes through whether I'm speaking or singing or whatever.
Let's just say that... I completely understand how frustrating voice acting can be at times. ^^;

So I was talking with [info]little_finch while I was doing that, and... I think it was around 2am when I called it a night. Partially because I wasn't sure if my voice was sounding tired or not. ...I'd been up late working on stuff the past few nights too. So, yeah.

Ended up with around four hours of sleep, I'd gotten around six the past few, so... yeah, I was exhausted on Thursday. But my photo story got done in time for class (though I had to ask grandpa for a ride in)... the audio kind of... didn't balance right when shown on the big screen, but besides that I'm quite proud of it.

We watched everyone's in class on Thursday. It was fascinating to see all the different ways that people created theirs. I loved seeing all of them! and I learned some things about my classmates. Like that one lived in France for a while, and another lost... practically an entire person in weight over the past year. Another has battled cancer.

I was supposed to have a draft lesson plan done in the afternoon, but, umm... I didn't have much done. And neither did anyone. And class ended an hour early, which is great because I. could. not. concentrate. I was listening, but I was all fidgety and yes. :S And I got a ride home, and discovered just how geeky one of my other classmates is. (Apparently he has almost no wallspace that's not full of posters and models... and he's 35 and a sci fi geek.) Incidentally, the gamer of the class, I discovered at lunch, had never heard of rule 34. He also somehow thought that (I Hate) Everything About You (which I was whistling) was London Bridge is Falling Down (which he whistled), which in turn he accidentally called Mary Had a Little Lamb. XD that boy is both win and fail at the same time, I swear. =D But we think kinda alike, so it's fun. (This is the guy I have an inside joke with, re: opening a pony academy.)

That night, I had no homework, which was nice. I was going to make banana muffins (there's been bananas for muffins sitting at home since Sunday), but I came home to discover that my mom, who had been at the TDSB's all librarians are gonna go book buying day (I dunno the proper name, but... yeah. they force EVERYONE to come and buy books at a one day giant bookfair of doom), and had baked two batches of muffins and brownies. And so there was no crisco left, but still enough bananas for two batches of muffins. So I didn't make muffins after all.

I did, however, have a nice chat with [info]carpetteknyghte that evening. She's officially on my list of people who I wish were online to chat with more often. Which has a total of... at least four people on it atm. And they probably all know who they are. >.> <.< (note: this is not to be confused with my list of people who are online often and are great to chat with. That list is a little longer.)

And then I ended up going to bed at such a time as I only had 6 hours of sleep before Friday morning. Go fail!C-chan~!

Friday was.... a lot better than I thought it would be.

It was divided into three parts. The first was... a panel, with three highschool students (two girls and one guy), their principal, and an EA who worked with... two if not all three of them. They were actually extremely insightful. I mean.... ok, the boy kind of stole the show. ...I can see how he may be seen as disrespectful in some areas, but he was... really insightful, had a lot of good ideas about what he needed in a teacher, and what the students' role is, and... he just took over in a good sense. Out of the girls, one was a little more quiet than the other two. The more talkative one... it was interesting to hear her, because she would say that she didn't know why she was being punished, when she was skipping every class. It wasn't off-putting to hear it, it was just.... interesting. But it was wonderful listening to them, and... it really helps me appreciate just how smart and mature high school students can be, and how even they know they've grown up since grade 9. And it shouldn't be so surprising, I went through that... ummm..... it will be four years since my commencement next month.... ^^; And I have friends who are there right now. But still..... it's just really interesting to hear it said like that. In a way I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable talking to a friend.

The second part? It was about resumes. Which could have been very very dull, but it wasn't. And the person running it.... Umm... she reminded me a TON of [info]viewpoints. Kind of physically, though they wouldn't pass as doubles or anything. And... IDK. Imagine if she was a geek about resumes and cover letters rather than photography/cosplay type stuff. ...I mean, this girl even had favourite fonts! It was awesome.

And then the third part had to do with looking at how we'll be marked on our practicums. And was done a little early.

I was treated for some hot chocolate between parts 2 and 3, which also involved our half-hour lunch break. That was nice. <3 And I got a ride home for the second day in a row by my.... leftie with too much in common mentally friend. =D

And last night? ...I didn't do much. I was tired and flopped around, and failed at progressing at Katamari. And talked with people and ended up not going to bed until much later than I should have.

And today? XD Literally I've written this, (On and off since around 8 or 9am and now it's 3 oh gosh....), had a bath, and eaten. And had the fma movie on in the background.

PS: I'm currently wearing black leggings and shirt under my red flamel. But my hair is anything but straight, and is not pulled back into a braid or otherwise. XD Perhaps I'll change that in a bit... *shrug*

And... yeah. I have no idea what's going on this weekend.
It's the 50th anniversary celebration for my mom's elementary school (the one she teaches at... I went to kindergarten there) today. I.... was kind of planning on going, but stuff happened.... namely, I thought it was tonight, and.... it, um, no one's been home since 9am, so I'm starting to think it was a day-thing...... >.<

And I was going to make and deliver muffins to [info]little_finch and [info]carpetteknyghte, but I was told it may not be a bad idea. So I'm not.

And tomorrow.... I may or may not be hanging out with people, but again that's dependent on a few things.

So. Um.

Y-yeah.

Worst comes to worst I will have a very relaxing weeekend. Though I miss being social when I don't get at least one day of talking to "my kind" in person at least once a week.....

I was talking about this a bit this week... I feel rather socially awkward most of the time. I don't fit in, and it's as much my fault as it is those of others. I... dunno. Social situations make me awkward. Often I can't join into things unless specifically invited... I refuse to go to things sometimes because I KNOW I'll probably spend it staring at walls. :S A consumate wall-flower, go me. ...I often don't sit with the group, because I don't know if they'd want me. Though I don't know why they wouldn't, specifically. I don't know. ^^; ....I just fail at the social thing.

I also realized the other day that I more or less associate social compitency with average intelligence. It's much harder when you're too smart or too dull. I don't know if that's right at all or not.

I feel comfortable around geeks, and even then it has to be the right people, and I still have issues about joining in with things, I can be far too self-conscious sometimes. And worry that I'm being too forward at others. ^^;;;;;;

And certain muses of mine are lonely and frustrated, but that's not specifically new.... >.<;;;;

I've got a goal right now. I took out $80 right before WOTS, of which I used about $40. I'm getting money from my grandfather on a pretty regular basis. I think I'm going to try not to take out any money (with one specific exception which actually isn't up to me) until Christmas. So just going to the bank to deposit money and... either deposit or cash checks. Hopefully more of the former than latter.
We'll see if I can do that. ...I need to start Christmas shopping soon.

I also need to start working on my hallowe'en costumes. I'm hoping to finish Hermione and Sumomo for then. We'll see if that actually comes into being. Hooopefully it will!!!!

In the meantime? Mmm... maybe I should do some class-reading.....
